Carla Birnberg · CARLA BIRNBERG | The Consistency Advantage

Last night Tinder entered the chat.

A notification appeared on my phone:

“Consistency is key.”

I laughed.

If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you already know how I feel about consistency. At this point, it may or may not be my bashert.

Still, there was something amusing about seeing those words come from Tinder.

My first thought was, “Well, Tinder has entered the conversation.”

The funny thing is, I've seen this before.

No matter how many times it happens, I still love the moment in coaching when someone realizes the answer isn’t hiding.

A client arrives convinced they need to optimize their entire life. Yet somewhere in the first session or two, they realize the thing they keep hoping won’t be the answer is the thing that works.

Years ago, I think discovering that notification on the home screen of my phone at 5 a.m. would have annoyed me.

Not because Tinder was wrong, but because a dating app owned by a giant corporation had wandered into territory I’d been studying, writing about, and most recently exploring in Dating Later.

Instead, I laughed.

Maybe that’s what happens when you’ve been following an idea long enough.

It becomes so woven into how you see the world, what you believe, how you work, and what you write about that you stop feeling proprietary about it.

You become genuinely happy when someone else arrives at the same conclusion.

So welcome, Tinder.

Pull up a chair.

Glad you made it.
