How I'm Thinking About Summer Dressing

Not gonna lie, I’ve never really bought into the whole “summer girl” thing.

You know the look people act like is universal. Bronzed skin, barely-there makeup, like you’ve just stepped out of a Vogue beach edit. It’s nice, but also very specific.

Growing up, I was always the opposite of that. Too pale, too this, too that. People used to comment on my skin like it was a public topic. Do you go outside? Are you okay? You should get some sun. It’s wild how normalised it was back then.

I remember noticing early on that there was this idea of summer beauty you were either in or out of.

I used to think I was just out.

Now I honestly think the whole thing is a bit overrated. There’s something performative about how summer beauty is sold. Like everyone is supposed to look the same kind of alive.

I actually like being pale now and I don’t really think skin tone should still be part of the conversation when it comes to style. It feels outdated in a way people don’t always question enough.

Some of you messaged me about this last year, and it stuck with me. So here it is.

When it comes to summer dressing, I’m also far more interested in texture than trends. A bit of leather, linen, a raffia bag that’s seen a few summers. A simple white tee or this one, an oversized shirt thrown over a top and that’s basically it.

Silk is always in the mix for me, and white suits too. They just work in summer without needing much thought.

Or, when everything feels a little too sensible, a pop of colour. Bright blue, buttery yellow, something that breaks it up a bit.

I recently came across this blue raffia tote and immediately stopped scrolling.

Speaking of suits, an older outfit from a few summers back with my favourite shell necklace, white flats and a Tove suit (I love this dress).

What I also find really chic is a denim shirt with striped trousers. Worn with worn-in sneakers, ideally on a beach afternoon. My great-aunt Karla is wearing exactly that here and it doesn’t need anything else. No styling tricks, no effort, it just works.

I’ve been really into Posse again for summer. It’s easy, chic, and somehow they get better every year. I feel like this is their strongest collection yet. They even have a store in New York now. See you there in late summer.

Also, I finally found the perfect raffia shoulder bag and a summer hat is still an essential.

A canvas dream bag I also came across, in the perfect shopper size with just the right amount of detail. Métier really never misses.

Some more denim styling that just works in summer too. A good denim jacket over silk, or denim paired back with simple summer pieces. Easy, nothing overthought.

Sometimes I really like a pop of red, like this Toteme trench I tried on.

I also started wearing my Coco ring as a pendant on an Dorsey necklace.

Last but not least, this Posse dress I wore a few summers ago. Works just as well with ballet flats as it does with heels. Sophie Buhai Katia cuff.
