Research Paper: A new model-based study published in Nature Sustainability warns that using Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) with wood from existing forests is unlikely to deliver negative emissions for up to 150 years due to slow forest regrowth and emissions from land use change. The research indicates that such projects could emit more than natural gas with CCS for decades and increase electricity costs by roughly 3.5 times.

Hemispheric contrast in summer season duration responses to CO2 removal

Synopsis: This study uses climate model simulations with CO₂ ramp-up and ramp-down scenarios to show that summer season length does not fully revert as CO₂ declines, revealing hysteresis in the climate system. Extratropical lands experience longer summers during cooling than warming, with stronger effects in the Southern Hemisphere due to delayed Southern Ocean cooling. In the Northern Hemisphere, both Southern Ocean conditions and Atlantic circulation changes contribute to asymmetric recovery and persistent heat extremes.

Rhenium isotopes reveal enhanced rock organic carbon oxidation over the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event
