Last Thursday in New York, at 4:30 PM, in the middle of a torrential downpour, I was bellied up to the bar of a non-alcoholic café—of all places—when I finished the first draft of my new book.

To be honest I wasn’t sure if I was going to pull it off. I had just come off an insane writing sprint in Jacksonville before arriving in NYC for my literary salon and book launch and I was…emotionally, creatively, and physically spent.

Between hosting private clients, hosting my own event, being a publisher, being an author (not to mention being a daughter, sister, and aunt) it all felt like a lot. In the best way, of course. But regardless—it was a full week.

But I knew one thing: I said I was going to do this, so I was going to do it.

And I did it. I wrote a book in 10 days.

The draft came in at a little under 30,000 words. I will continue to build on it, and of course take it through a few rounds of edits, but I wrote the bulk of it and I am really fucking proud of it—like, really proud.

I’ll share more about the book soon including the title and cover which is currently being designed as we speak. I hired Dolly Parton’s cover designer. Please chew on that for a second.

It’s also worth noting that finishing the draft is not the only thing I’m celebrating.
