Like dreamers we shall be
When the true king sets us free;
Through Mount Zion we shall walk
When the man of sorrows departs Galilee.
Forgotten brothers we shall see—
Manasseh, Zeb, Gad, Simeon, Naphtali,
Reuben, Issachar, Asher, Ephraim, Dan—
Sloughing their chains off from captivity.
On a mourning day shall his birthday be;
If one day of perfect rest we make only
Then his footfalls loud and clear
Shall lead the world to jubilee.
Tractor and harvester from tank and humvee,
For no more warfare we shall see,
And a little child shall lead them
By lions and lambs in harmony.
Seen by our own eyes, in our times and swiftly
May he ride to our capital astride his donkey
For all this and more, long have we waited
And so shall we longer, though he may tarry.
