I didn't change my work. I finally understood its shape.

For a long time, I thought I was still looking for the work.

From the outside, it probably looked that way too.

The language changed.
The website changed.
New pages appeared.
Some things became quieter.
Others disappeared altogether.

It would be easy to assume that I reinvented what I do.

I didn’t.

If anything, the opposite happened.

Over the past year, the work has become much clearer.

Not because it’s changed, but because I can see it more clearly now.

Looking back over the last twenty years, I can see that the same thread has been there all along.

When I practised naturopathic medicine, I wasn’t most interested in treating disease. I was interested in understanding what a person’s system was trying to express.

When I studied functional medicine, it wasn’t the protocols that held my attention. It was the patterns.

When I began working with the nervous system, I wasn’t drawn to regulation as an end in itself. I was drawn to what became possible when someone no longer had to protect themselves from their own experience.

When I began using bioenergetics, the technology was never the point. It was another way of listening.

The forms changed.

The underlying movement never did.

I have always been interested in one thing.

Helping people come into more accurate contact with what is already true.

For a long time, I didn’t have language for that.

So the work was expressed through the tools I had available.

Now I see those tools differently.

Some people need enough safety for direct contact with themselves to become possible. That’s where nervous system work belongs.

Some people are trying to make sense of what their system has been communicating all along. That’s where interpretation belongs.

Some people are already standing at the edge of something they know can’t be solved by another explanation. They simply want somewhere to stay with what is here. That’s where The Return begins.

They’re different doorways into the same landscape.

They don’t compete with one another.

It means I no longer have to decide where someone belongs before I’ve even met them.

It means I don’t have to persuade anyone toward one path instead of another.

I can simply make the landscape visible.

From there, people tend to recognise where they already are.

And once that happens, the next step usually becomes surprisingly obvious.

Almost everything has quietly reorganised around that.

The website now reflects it.

The different ways of working each have their own place.

The writing has become simpler.

The videos have become quieter.

Even this essay feels different from something I would have written a year ago.

Not because I’ve arrived somewhere.

Only because I can see a little more clearly than I could before.

The work hasn’t become something else.

Its shape has simply become easier to see.

I’ve tried to make that landscape visible in one place.

Not as a map of where you should go.

Simply as a way of seeing what is already here.

Perhaps, somewhere in it, you’ll recognise where you are too.
