Asking for a friend

I launched a startup and am a little shy to ask for help. Why, you say? Because I try to not be “that guy.”

Some time ago, I got an instant message from a high school classmate. Naturally, I got intrigued by what’s it about because I hadn’t heard a word from him for 18 years since graduation.

Without hesitation, I quickly opened the letter. It was addressed to me by my first name and looked personal.

He was pleasant, asked what I had been doing, and reminisced school years. And then boom, all that warm feeling and excitement blew up in my face.

It was just about him trying to get me to like his Facebook page. I have followed every other stupid page, no matter how close or distant the person was or how cheap the ask was. As long as the project resonated with me. But not this time. Because I felt deceived by his “sincerity.”

But anyway, here we are. I am, trying to not be that guy, and I’m about to find out if blogging and being honest work better. Here it goes…

Getting a move on social media is a challenge. Are you keen enough to pull yourself together and help us out?

For you, it’s just another post, comment, like, etc. But for us, and right now, it means everything! Any engagement makes us more visible to more people. Every tiny bit counts. Because it’s a numbers game, an algorithm to beat.

When we make it, tracking which friend or relative helped get our message across will be challenging. But right now, because we are just building up, you can easily be our everyday warrior and make a big difference for us!
