Here’s what’s in today’s post:

  • The grocery shopping system that makes weeknights feel easier

  • My simple rules for avoiding overbuying (and underplanning)

  • What I prep ahead—and what I always buy

  • The pantry + fridge staples (exact brands) I keep stocked at all times

This post is part of my Weeknight Dinner Reset series—4 posts that work together to make dinner feel easier, calmer, and way less overwhelming. Upgrade to unlock the full system.

There’s the grocery shop in my imagination: lingering through perfectly curated aisles, picking up each tomato to give it a sniff for ripeness before placing it in my basket… I might be wearing a headscarf.

And then there’s the all-too-real version: I’m pushing my cart like a woman on a mission, scrolling recipes on my phone, trying to remember everything—while my kids are covertly throwing in Frosted Flakes and Gushers when I’m not looking.

Not exactly conducive to the nervous system regulation I’ve been working on.

Here’s the thing: I actually do like grocery shopping when I have time to slow down and enjoy it. And usually, that starts with taking a few minutes on Sunday or Monday to plan meals for the week ahead—so I know exactly what I need.

Because most of the dinnertime stress we’ve been talking about? It actually starts at the store. When we underplan, we overbuy. And we end up with a cart full of ingredients that don’t actually add up to real meals.

It’s decision fatigue in fluorescent lighting.

(aka what I actually buy every week to make it feel easy and fun instead of chaotic)
