The month of May is 31 days to be re-awakened to the mental health of Asian Americans. By decree of the government, the U.S.A. observes Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which is also referred to as Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month, among other labels. And, May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. At the intersectionality, therefore, is this big topic: mental health of Asian Americans.
The current number of Asian Americans is:
26.8 million
(The estimated number of Asian alone-or-in-combination residents in the United States in 2024. Fact Sheet, U.S. Census for May 2026)
And there’s much more that could be said. Regarding the mental health of Asian Americans, some small changes have happened, with some more people getting help & going towards wellness, with some more people talking about the topic that helps to erase the shame and stigma; but we have such a long way to go.
One thing to say: I believe 8,000+ Asian American churches are uniquely poised to be welcoming communities that can nurture and care for the wellness of Asian Americans and non-Asians alike, by having mental health ministries that care for the whole person. There’s no other place that gathers more Asian Americans every week; and that personal & relational connection could be a very valuable healing agent for so many.

Special thanks to Andrew Feng of Frontier Commons for accelerating the re-design & extreme makeover, with Claude Code doing a big part of the heavy lifting. With the new design is a super fast-loading web server.
That’s all for now. I’d imagine that life is very full for you, as it is for me. Such as it is with the life that is adulting. Be well, my friends.
p.s. last month’s question & answer prompted so many comments & reactions, mostly private. I know a guy who’ll do a sentiment analysis on the 80+ responses received, so we can learn more about the challenges to developing an emotionally healthy culture for each Asian American church.
