I met Dominic Hay through Caribbean Tech Collective.
He is the co-founder of CareerGuard, and he started it out of frustration. Too many talented people being overlooked. Not because they lacked ability. Not because they lacked potential. Because they struggled to stand out on paper. A CV can only tell so much of someone’s story.
CareerGuard’s answer is skills-based hiring. Candidates build SkillSnap profiles, rich video and text profiles that show the whole person rather than a list of job titles. Employers screen with real skills tests instead of guessing from paper. The people who get hired are the people who can do the job, not the people with the best formatting.
If you have spent any time around early-career talent, you know why this matters. Talented people get screened out in thirty seconds because their CV does not look the part. The playing field has never been level. Dominic is one of the few founders actually doing something structural about it.
Here is what I want to shout up, because the product story only makes sense once you know the person.
Born in the UK, grew up in Jamaica, came back in 2007. Went to Greenwich rather than Oxbridge, started with nothing, and built a career from zero to multiple six figures. Not through family connections, in his words, but through graft, a bit of charm, networking and a few skills.
He works relentlessly hard. He is building CareerGuard while creating career content, raising a family, that has reached well over 100,000+ followers across social media, keynoting, running workshops, and showing up in person for the communities his product serves. That last part is rare. Plenty of founders talk about access. Dominic gets on a train and delivers it.
That is why CareerGuard is a CameThru sponsor spotlight this week. This is exactly the kind of founder and mission we want in the room.
This week Dominic and the CareerGuard team are delivering a free two-day programme at the University of Roehampton for young people aged 16 to 24 who are currently not in work, education or training.
Day 1, Monday 14 July, Personal Brand and Digital Identity, 10am to 3pm. Participants identify their skills, work on personal branding, and build their CareerGuard Digital CV live in the room. Everyone leaves with a completed SkillSnap profile.
Day 2, Tuesday 15 July, Corporate Readiness, 10am to 3pm. Corporate readiness, code switching, professionalism, then networking and interview prep, closing with a graduation moment where every participant is recognised in front of the group.
Everyone also leaves with a professional headshot and a career readiness workbook. Credit to Roehampton University for backing it.
I will be down there on Day 1 to support.
Here is the thing. It is free, it is a day out, and the barrier to entry is turning up. If you are a young person looking for work, the worst case is you leave with a professional headshot, a completed digital CV and a plan. That is a good day by any measure.
So this is the ask. If you know someone aged 16 to 24 who is not currently in work, education or training, or you work with young people who fit that, send them this link today:
And if you are an employer who cares about hiring on potential rather than paper, Dominic would love to hear from you. Find him on LinkedIn and TikTok. You will not have to scroll far to see why over 100,000 people already follow him.
See you there.
