Let me guess: Your job descriptions are a mix of buzzwords and bullet points that say things like:
“Self-starter”
“Great communicator”
“Team player”
That’s not a hiring strategy. That’s a wish list.
There is a different way of writing job desciptions whoch is called scorecard based JD.
Here’s how they work:
1. Mission – What is the core purpose of this role?
Example:
“The mission of the Customer Success Manager is to increase product adoption and reduce churn across mid-market accounts.”
2. Outcomes – What must this person achieve in the first 90, 180, and 365 days?
Make it measurable:
→ “Reduce churn rate from 7% to 3% within 6 months”
→ “Conduct onboarding for 100 new customers with CSAT > 90%”
If they can’t hit these, it’s a mismatch.
3. Competencies – What skills and traits are non-negotiable?
These should be tailored to the role, not just generic.
E.g., for a B2B sales role:
→ Challenger-style selling
→ Data-driven approach
→ Comfortable with CRMs and forecasting
4. Cultural Fit – What values must they embody?
Not ping pong tables and happy hours.
Real values: ownership, transparency, adaptability.
With this Scorecard, every decision—sourcing, interviewing, onboarding—becomes aligned.
Hiring turns into a strategic match, not a resume roulette.
