Lanzarote surprised me in the very best way. It is one of the most interesting, unique and beautiful places I have ever been. So buckle in for my mini guide to one of the coolest Canary Islands.

We decided to stay in two properties across the island, starting with Ca’mur, a beautiful design property in an area very close to the airport. This was an accidental find; it wasn’t on any booking platforms and was apparently an intentional decision by the owners, who want their place to be discovered. When we pulled up in our car, we were greeted by Sam and his partner, Raúl and welcomed into a design lover’s dream. The property blends traditional architecture with natural materials, and items inside felt so in keeping with the surrounding landscape, some of which were as old as the property itself. Each room had its own personality, filled with colour and art from local Canarian artists. Our room overlooking the pool and the ocean right in front was heavenly. The breakfast, whilst not included in the price, is worth ordering for at least one of the nights of your stay. Everything served is grown on the island and focuses on highlighting Canarian cuisine like Almogrote, a rich, spiced cheese pâté made by grinding hardened goat's cheese with garlic, peppers, and olive oil.
