Applicants for a lender and/or broker under the California Financing Law must apply on Form MU1 (Company Form) through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS was created in 2008 as an online platform for submitting license applications and renewals for non-depository companies providing a variety of financial services. The MU1 is supplemented by two additional forms - the Form MU2 which requires disclosure of information about specified control persons, executive officers, and qualifying individuals, and Form MU3 which requires information abou branch offices. The Department of Financial Protection & Innovation receives over 1,000 MU1 and MU2 forms each year.
