This past week was the first non-game-designers game test. We played for the first time with our usual RPG friends that have never actually seen the classes or species or any of the extra rules we added to the core Shadowdark rules.

Did I mention we are making it Shadowdark compatible?? Well in case I forgot, it will be built on top of Shadowdark with a very short list of extra rules, mainly to add some mechanics that reward players for using their personalities and other narrative aspects.

In any case, we are kipping it very close to the standard classes from D&D and all the classics. I know It can sound lazy or repetitive, but I’ve learned archetypes exist for good reason. The classics character jobs are fantastic for lowering the learning curve, besides, our world is alienating enough so we can make it more understandable with familiar classes.

The official class list:

  • Vanguard: the fighter/barbarian equivalent

  • Scout: a mix of a ranger and an investigator

  • Infiltrator: the techno-rogue

  • Ontomancer: the machine-sorcerer

  • Conduit: a machine-god religious fanatic

  • Templar: a paladin that can be any alignment or have any motivation. The gods

don’t give a damn about mortals (or immortals) in our universe.

  • Metamorph: the only class that breaks away from tradition, they can reshape and morph their bodies to fit any situation.
    Mechanist: A machine-druid/whisperer.

We are FAR away from having art made by ourselves, but meanwhile I’ve spent several hours on Pinterest gathering mood boards for the classes so I’m sharing my inspiration collections here:
