CAKE ZINE · Cake Zine

Hello cake friends,

It’s a special day. After years of publishing Cake Zine, we’re finally launching print subscriptions as part of a multi-tiered membership program. We hope this will make it easier for our readers to keep up with every issue before they sell out, while also supporting our efforts to publish quality work in the future.

Over the past four years, Cake Zine has grown from a passion project into a thriving creative platform sustained by our core team’s largely uncompensated labor. We set out to make an art project, but we’ve found ourselves running a business, all while each working multiple jobs. With your help, this new subscription-based membership model will allow us to cover our print costs and compensate our team while preserving the creative spirit of our work and enable future growth.

Why membership?

Cake Zine’s core will always be our magazine—but it’s also much more. Our community shows up for large-scale launch parties and mutual-aid events, newsletter comment sections, and art book fairs. We work hard to make our events and merch releases as widely available as possible, but they always sell out due to demand. Membership will help ensure early and increased access for folks who want to engage at a deeper level, while also financially supporting our work.

Why now?

We’re committed to the future of Cake Zine, but we need more resources to make this possible.

  • Our pitch calls have grown. We receive over 500 submissions per issue, which requires a great deal of time to thoughtfully review.

  • We’ve expanded our domestic distribution to over 73 stores across the country to make it easier for folks to find us IRL, which we handle ourselves.

  • We have produced 20 sold-out events around the world since our launch in 2022, from 500-person readings and 850-person+ parties to smaller restaurant pop-ups, and we’re continually planning more events to try and meet demand.

Memberships help us pay our contributors, compensate our team, cover printing and operating costs, and allow us to grow the magazine. Most of all, they help us keep making Cake Zine on our own terms. If you want to support our independent publishing or just want to ensure you don’t miss an issue, join us today.

Subscriptions will start with our new issue Steak Zine, which is dropping very soon.

For a limited time: Get 15% off an Insider-level membership if you subscribe before April 3rd and receive early access to event tickets and other releases.

Always saving room for dessert,

Aliza, Tanya, Noah, and the Cake Zine team

P.S. Thank you to the wonderful Shama Rahman for her invaluable help setting up our subscriptions program.
