Heads up that McCabe’s has a low ticket alert for our show Jan 24. Way to start our tour right, thank you LA! It’s also my birthday and will be the coldest day of the year (-10) back home in VT, a warm welcome indeed! I always have a hard time even thinking about leaving home, but this does help coax my horse from the stable. I don’t know what the rest of the tour’s ticket sales look like, but it’s generally wise (and helpful) to buy tickets in advance. Good ticket sales means a venue invites a band back, and I thank you for it.
I am procrastinating to avoid suitcase Tetris. On our first record release leg, we drove to Minneapolis and back to VT in my minivan and had a jolly old time. I’d always pick the highway to the skyway. Tour mates over the years have teased me about my open tote habit (I don’t see anything wrong with a snack bag, a gear bag, and a merch tee bag). I prefer totes squirreled away in a van to one 50 pound brick of a suitcase of gear and merch that surely will be wrenched open in a sweaty rush at check in to fish out a few lbs of CDs - socks and guitar cables flying out like a jack in the box. I weigh it before I go, but alas.
I used to fly all the time to my shows, a few times each month. I was A list on Southwest back in the day! I breezed through check in. It feels preposterous now. How did I do that? I lived in Manhattan for about a decade. How did I do that? I do love being up in the sky, it’s a sacred place and a privilege but it feels a world away from the world I dearly love.
I love my songs dearly too. Mostly I feel honored that anyone out there who has been moved by a song of mine marks a date in their calendar, buys a ticket, gets a sitter, makes a dinner plan and shows up to sit in the dark with my songs and some real live people for an hour and a half.
And for everyone not in shouting distance of one of our shows, here’s a fresh video live from home of “Heartache Don’t Live Here.” (Filmed by Brian Carroll)
