Hi friend,
I want to start this note with an apology and a laugh. I’m sorry for disappearing while I was in Canada! In hindsight, it’s hilarious that I thought I’d be able to write at all, let alone daily. I was so busy with my family, I didn’t even see many friends—and I certainly wasn’t going to prioritize opening a laptop over seeing people. So “hahaha” to me (maybe I’ll finally learn this lesson now!?), and sorry again to you! But I’m home. I’m not exactly rested yet (came home and immediately got an infection followed by two minor injuries, lol), but I do have a lot of things I want to share… because even though I wasn’t writing, I took notes while I was away!
Notes on the things I was noticing: in myself, in my people, and in the world around me. But I also spent a lot of time thinking about what my life looks like in the UK now. What home means to me here. What the shape of my community is. What I’m grateful for, and what I feel like I’m missing still. Routines that are working. Routines I want/need to make changes around. Things I might like to try. Politics I’d been trying to ignore. I thought about all of this, then used those same noticings to ask myself questions about my life before: growing up in Canada. I’d like to find a way to write about some of this, this summer…
Anyway, it’s safe to say last month was a bit of a blur. I’m guessing that’s how many parents with two kids under the age of 3 feel! You wake up early and tired, and you go to bed exhausted. Every day looks pretty similar to the last, other than when it comes to a toddler’s food preferences. But there were lots of little moments that I will remember, and I tried to capture as many of them as I could…
