In this week’s newsletter, we are excited to share two confessional pieces—one from an Episcopal priest in Texas and another from a prospective undergraduate student in Indiana. Both narrate their Asian American experiences from observations made in their respective, if unlikely, corners of the world. Such stories are helpful for moving us beyond mere racialized stereotypes and the various trappings of identity politics. They remind us that we are more than what popular or social media might suggest; they suggest that immigration and refugee experiences are not outlier stories of Asian American enclaves, but they are the very fabric of American life; and perhaps most importantly, they beg the question: what do our particular social locations have to say to the American church?
