I have always been told I am stupid. Slow. Delayed, even.

If it wasn’t said outright, it was communicated in quieter ways — through comparison, correction, lowered expectations. Through the tone people used when explaining things to me for the third or fourth time. Through the way my intelligence was always something in question, never something assumed.
