We hope this finds you well and beach-bound. No matter what anyone says, summer isn’t over, and any belief that it is is an act of surrendering to fall’s frigid clutches. RESIST! Anyway. There are two tricks to running a small business: living by a post office and living on the ground floor (or in an elevator building). None of our apartments are either of those things. So when our beloved (albeit frequently delayed) fulfillment center closed, that meant the entire archive was lugged up the stairs of a brownstone. So next week, we’ll be doing our first-ever BYLINE ARCHIVE SALE!!! Issues will be 20-50% off and very limited in quantity. In the meantime, here’s what you may have missed in all things bylines:

New York Magazine put out a beautiful SWANA cover & cover story penned by Zaina Arafat. We’ll take three tickets to Habibi City, personally.

Speaking of “Chic, C’est La Vie…” we’re putting out a cease and desist on the “kinda chic” trend that’s taking over the internet. We haven’t felt so disgruntled by a singular word since “demure” made everyone lose their minds.
Two years after Camilla Cabello released her critically unacclaimed album, C, XOXO, reconsidered the work for The Fader. The argument is that in a world of Adelas and Slayyyters, C, XOXO actually deserves a second chance. The article went viral and Twitter blew up with a slew of “FINALLY”s and “I TOLD YOU”s. As of yesterday, streams for the album are now up 475%. The power of a hot take even if it’s two years later!!!
NYT broke the news that Forbes editor Randall Lane was fired for taking a 6 million dollar investment. Mr. Lane is the chief content officer and responsible for the inmate-producing Forbes 30 under 30 list (look up the percentage of people arrested after publication, and the answer is significantly more than 1). Mr. Lane will seemingly be fine, and the real story is that he used the money to stage a (checks notes) Rock Musical about Benjamin Franklin, in which the founder father is referred to as “America’s first rock star.”
East Village’s new bookstore, Rabbit Books and Bar, is dividing Twitter. Some are calling it the most beautiful bookstore they’ve stepped into. Some are calling it the embodiment of a Wayfair store, stocked only with books from BookTok. Whatever the true case may be, we’re excited to see how the mother-daughter-run shop stacks up against Bookclub Bar and its future across-the-street neighbor, Barnes & Noble.
The Shards, in our opinion, started off strong—probably due to the fact that Bret Easton Ellis himself wrote the first two episodes. Episodes 3 & 4, which came out last night, were decidedly different, and not in a good way. Guess that’s what you get when you let Ryan Murphy fully take the reins.
Is it just us, or is Teen Vogue’s Adela cover much more exciting than Vogue’s September cover? Give us texture, give us glamor, give us talent, give us PINK! Don’t give us…nepo babies on a drab Sears backdrop. (No shade to Kaia).
