Lately, I’ve found myself resisting the urge to finish a talk I’ve been working on for months—a writing project that, if I follow through, will mark the completion of a goal I set nearly a decade ago.
I’ve been resisting. And resisting.
Recently, I listened to a podcast conversation with Mel Robbins and Seth Godin that reframed everything. They spoke about resistance not as something to avoid, but as a signal.
These four conversations will inspire you to dig into your discomfort because being uncomfortable actually means you are about to change lives, including your own.
Brittany Penner: Brittany knew she wanted to write through her long-held pain. She started with a novel, but as she wrote, the tension grew. Then, reality set in; her creative mission wasn’t a novel; it was a memoir. My conversation with Brittany on About Your Mother is a deeply moving web of identity, culture, motherhood, and the resilience of Indigenous people, and ultimately, how we need to lean in to our fears.
From the Vault: My conversation with Peter Mutabazi and Jeff Forney is one of my favorite podcast recordings. You might have heard about Peter and his story in the media, as he is possibly the most well-known foster dad in the US, having fostered 47 children and adopted three more.
Homeless by the age of ten in the streets of Uganda, Peter’s life changed when a stranger approached him and asked him his name.
Peter hesitated. It was a dangerous question because no adult had ever asked him that when he was on the streets. Not giving his real name was a form of self-defense. His anonymity helped the street kid build psychological armor. He could remain calloused if he saw himself only as Garbage Boy. - CNN
But Peter set his hesitation aside and answered the stranger. Find out the rest of the story here: Peter Mutabazi on About Your Mother
Mel Robbins & Seth Godin: As Mel says, “This episode is not about marketing. It’s about the life you want to live, and why you keep putting it off with busyness, scrolling, excuses like, ‘I’ll do it when…’”
I was taking notes the entire time I was listening to this episode. You will, too.
Scott Schumaker and Melanie Spring are two incredibly talented storytellers not afraid to break the mold. In Scott’s podcast Love, Loss, & Hallucinations, Melanie talks about leaning into transformation at all times. As Scott says, “Melanie explodes the myth that you need to be perfect or have your act together to thrive. Instead, she shows you the power in owning your stuff, embracing your wildness, and continually evolving.”
