Tony Pierce · Hot Box

there were several goals to writing the Hot Box rideshare tales on Substack.

one of them was to have them in a neat and orderly place that wasn’t Facebook where there were solid URLs, places for people to comment, and a way for the stories to garner its own audience.

mission accomplished!

another goal was to see how they looked and hear how people responded to them individually so i could make a little book.

that too has happened!

so now i am in the process of putting together that book. next month it will be available on Kindle and available on Amazon and some other places. But my dream is to have it in random locations so you can buy it at a store.

If the cover looks familiar it is because i am paying tribute / ripping off one of my favorite authors, JD Salinger.

A long time ago when i was at Santa Monica College i thought i was a really good writer. Turns out I was wrong. I was in a history class and all I needed was a B- to transfer to UC Santa Barbara and begin my life as a university student.

But my history teacher said, “oh no. you are so bad at writing essays I shouldn’t even give you a C+, i will give you a solid C. And no there’s nothing you can do to convince me to move it up to a B- because you are actually a bad writer and you will get eaten up at UC Santa Barbara.”

When she told me that I began crying. I went to the library and roamed the stacks weeping to myself feeling horrible how my life had took an ugly turn. I stopped at the JD Salinger section and picked up Nine Stories and began re-reading “A Perfect Day for Banana Fish.”

I don’t know how or why, but it cheered me up.

This is a photo some say is JD at a nudist colony writing and writing and writing. But Snopes thinks it’s fake. But JD was such a mysterious person with lots of unanswered questions about his life, who knows.

I just like that he is smoking a pipe, writing from the tailgate of his car, and not bothering anyone.

i dont wanna bother anyone either. i want to make people happy. i want to meet cool people for 20-25 minutes, and if they have cool things to say, i wanna write it down in a way that honors them.

i think i have done that through these Hot Box stories.

which means it’s time for a pre-sale.

i am not a fan of trying to gouge people. i like receiving good deals and i like giving good deals.

i do not know exactly how much these books are really going to cost, but here’s what i want to do for the first 50 people who sign up via presale.

If you have a US mailbox and you fork over $25 just click here.

If you live outside the USA, email me at hearinLA@gmail.com and we can work something out for your sweet foreign bootay.
