Everybody loves getting something or to a point without effort. It’s encoded in our human nature. But besides that, I think we are getting closer to the no-brainer point in anything we interact in our lives. I don’t say that intuitive user experience design is a bad thing, but leaving no challenge or friction also brings a common desire for not thinking at all. As a game designer I try to design all elements to be intuitive as well and when I think that when every designer tries to do that, it can contribute to not thinking as much as designers get more successful at it. Nowadays we use almost every app or website with an intelligent recommendation system, thanks to the progress upon machine learning and artificial intelligence in recent years. This shapes also our decisions even if we don’t lose, it shapes visibility of elements in that platform.
And it makes many people to go over ready-made decisions to when it comes listening a song, watching a movie or reading a content. I don’t have a final decision about this but all these frictionless experiences doesn’t seem right to me. I think everything becomes more generic and that bothers me.
