There’s something refreshing about simplifying investing down to a single question: if I could only own five stocks for the next decade, what would they be? Not the five stocks most likely to double next year. Not the five most exciting AI trades. The five businesses I’d feel comfortable owning through recessions, bubbles, geopolitical chaos, rate cycles, and whatever new fear the market decides to obsess over next.
To make the list, a company needed more than just growth. I wanted businesses with durable competitive advantages, rational management teams, strong balance sheets, and long reinvestment runways. Ideally, they would actually emerge stronger during periods of uncertainty. These aren’t necessarily the cheapest stocks in the market today, but they are the companies I have the highest conviction will still be thriving a decade from now.
