Building the Legacy · Building the Legacy

We continue to dive deeper into your League history, pulling out nuggets and historical artifacts to provide whole new ways for you to enjoy your league data.

Perhaps the most requested feature is finally here - player level matchup data! We’ve worked hard to get your data setup from your fantasy services - and there is still work to do on the edges - but we’ve built a fun new way to dive deep into your matchup history with a new feature called Gamecenter.

GameCenter is your home base for your league matchup data. Start off with a view on how your league scoring has changed overtime and view week-by-week matchups from your previous and current seasons. Our updated matchup widget shows even more stats at a quick glance than before - including the new Coach Score and an updated Luck Factor!

Coach Score is a new metric based on how well a team started their optimal lineup for the week! We can now score1 and rank teams by how well they “coach” their team week-to-week, or how many points they left sitting on their bench!

Luck Factor has been redesigned to more accurately reflect how much luck played a role in the outcome of a matchup. We base this formula on your opponents performance and your expected win outcome. This is a fun, directionally correct metric to compare week-to-week or over the course of a season to see how lucky you were (or weren’t!)

In Gamecenter we showcase your top matchups within a handful of categories such as the Top Shootouts (highest scoring matchups), Blowouts (largest victory margins), Snoozers (lowest scoring matchups), and Nailbiters (narrowest victor margins). We also have a category dedicated to your championship matchups specifically!

Another new category is Top Matchups - a fun new way to rank the best league matchups all-time! We now calculate a score for every matchup based on a variety of weighted factors like the importance of the matchup, closeness in score, rivalry, etc - and then rank each matchup within this category by that score.

Categories are a fun way to explore a set of matchups throughout your history!

Now let’s dive into the new Matchup page by viewing details of a particular matchup!

The new matchups page now shows your roster from the matchup, their points scored2, and A LOT of metrics and stats here to compare!

There’s almost too much to list here but we’ll give it a shot:

  • Get indicated on which players were the optimal start for the week or not!

  • See whether you or your opponent “won” the position battle!

  • Compare against your opponent in stats such as your points share and rank for the week, your score vs your season averages and the league scoring averages, the luck factor (calculated based on you and your opponents performance), and Coach Rank - how optimal you set your lineup for the week!

  • Get positional breakdowns to see how you ranked in scoring by position for the week!

  • View your historical versus (head-to-head) data with your matchup opponent!

Working with player level data is complex - many services don’t offer this level of granularity, or they do and it’s inaccurate for your league settings3, and if the underlying data is not accurate - you may not be getting a perfectly accurate representation of your matchup. It’s also an incredible amount of data to retrieve, store, and present - so we continue to work hard at making that work better on our end.

This is a feature we will continue to iterate on improving overtime and expand as much as possible to more and more fantasy services, league types, sports, and variations. Here are some of the things we are working towards in the future with Gamecenter:

  • Continue improving our underlying player data for accuracy.

  • Work on more semi-automated roster import tools via our League Legacy Chrome Extension.

  • Adding the ability to manual import roster data at the matchup level and manually override, alter, or add to your data.

  • Provide deeper stats and breakdowns at the matchup-player level to dive deeper into your performances.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments on Gamecenter!

We attempt to make Coach Score as accurate as possible given the data provided. Yahoo, in particular, provides us with PPR points for players and not necessarily the points that reflect your league scoring. This means the sum of your roster points may not reflect the true point total of your matchup.

In order to more accurately calculate Coach Score, there is an option in Season Settings we recommend enabling for Yahoo leagues to ‘Use PPR Scoring’. This setting will only affect how we calculate Coach Score and Optimal Points.
