The offense came alive on Sunday, fueling a win for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a game that saw a rain delay. Through eight runs and 11 hits, the Pirates clinched their weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, and will now turn their attentiont to the Detroit Tigers to begin the week.
Paul Skenes was originally scheduled to start, but he will instead pitch on Wednesday. That opened the door for Lake Bachar, and he didn’t disappoint. Handling the opener duties, Bachar tossed three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four.
After getting promoted this morning from Indianapolis, Hunter Barco allowed three runs, all coming on a home run, on two hits and a walk while striking out four over three innings pitched.

Kirby Yates, Camilo Doval, and Mason Montgomery also pitched to close out the game.
Offensively, Esmerlyn Valdez recorded a pair of doubles, while Bryan Reynolds, Brandon Lowe, and Nick Yorke also had multi-hit efforts.
The Pirates will now begin another series, this one against the Tigers. They will face yet another lefty in Framber Valdez while Carmen Mlodzinski gets the nod for the home team.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET and the game will be televised on ESPN.
RHP Levi Sterling and LHP Reinold Navarro are set to be promoted to High-A Greensboro to begin their upcoming series on the road against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
It was Chase Ford who was first on the Sterling news, while Colin Beazley broke Navarro getting promoted.
Both pitchers were coming off solid outings this past week against Lakeland. Sterling struck out 11 batters over six innings pitched on Thursday. He has a 4.31 ERA with 112 strikeouts over 96 innings pitched this season.
Navarro trails only Seth Hernandez (by one) among all Pirates’ minor leaguers in strikeouts. He retired the first 14 batters he faced on Saturday, allowing just one hit over five shutout innings. He has 117 strikeouts over 69.1 innings pitched while posting a 2.60 ERA.
They are both 19 years old still.
