Bryan Moir · The Quiet Conquest

The Schiit remains at Shippsy (pronounced shee-it)

But there has been movement.

Not physical movement, obviously.

Let’s not get carried away.

This is logistics.

The status has changed to:

Pre-transit.

Which is a magnificent phrase.

It means the Schiit is no longer merely delivered.

It is no longer merely declared.

It is no longer merely processing.

It has now entered the sacred vestibule of possible motion.

Pre-transit.

Not transit.

Pre-transit.

The Schiit has not left the building.

It has not crossed the border.

It has not joined the Friday truck.

It has not begun the final march toward Vaughan.

But somewhere in the administrative metabolism of Shippsy, it has been promoted from “thing sitting here” to “thing we may soon consider moving.”

This is progress in the modern sense.

A status bar has shifted.

A database has accepted reality.

A clerk, algorithm, scanner, or minor logistics spirit has acknowledged that the tiny silver box exists, belongs to me, has been declared, and is now eligible for the next stage of ritualized inconvenience.

In ordinary language, pre-transit means:

It is by the door.

Possibly with its boots on.

Maybe looking for its keys.

Still not in the car.

This is how the modern world stretches a simple act into a drama.

A man wants to play a record.

A record needs a turntable.

The turntable needs a preamp.

The preamp needs to be ordered.

The order needs to ship.

The shipment needs to arrive.

The package needs to be delivered.

The delivery needs to be scanned.

The scan needs to be declared.

The declaration needs to be approved.

The approval needs to become processing.

The processing needs to become pre-transit.

And pre-transit, naturally, must one day evolve into transit, assuming the gods of parcel forwarding are not distracted by lunch.

All of this for a phono preamp.

Not a crate of moon rocks.

Not military hardware.

Not a diplomatic pouch containing state secrets.

A small silver box designed to make old records louder.

And yet here we are, documenting each stage like the Schiit is being smuggled across the Alps by candlelight.

Current operational status:

Object: Schiit Mani 2 Phono Preamp
Location: Shippsy
Status: Pre-transit
Meaning: Processed enough to be considered for movement
Next sacred phrase: In transit
Desired outcome: Friday truck
Morale: Cautiously smug, but emotionally diversified

This is the phase where optimism becomes dangerous.

The rookie sees pre-transit and celebrates.

The veteran knows better.

Pre-transit is not victory.

Pre-transit is bureaucracy putting on a clean shirt.

Still, it is not nothing.

The Schiit has moved one step closer to the truck.

One step closer to Canada.

One step closer to the Beogram.

One step closer to the Boston Acoustic A70s.

One step closer to Robert Johnson entering the room like weather moving under the door.

For now, the Schiit remains in limbo.

Not lost.

Not free.

Not home.

Pre-transit.

The modern equivalent of “almost doing something.”

To be continued.
