Creativity Pressure

BRYAN · BRYAN

I feel like there’s some pressure on me lately.

Like it’s a feeling of rock on top of my shoulders I have to carry around when I’m traveling the internet. Platforms like Substack, Medium, and my personal social media accounts such as Instagram and Threads.

The feeling of having to create content. Constantly. Writing or media that performs well on those platform in terms of views, engagements, monetization. Instead of creating for me.

It’s really about finding purpose in my writing, in my creativity, and my life.

Because our lives are full of consumption. We buy useless things, we watch useless things. We scroll all day on TikTok and Instagram, and it’s draining us.

Creating things is a way to heal ourselves. Getting inspired by going outside, reading books and stop doomscrolling.

But when you feel like you must create something, it worsens it. You become a machine that just puts out content for the sake of publishing, instead for the love of your craft.

I’m 25 years old now but back when I was a kid in 2011/2012, I loved to write as well. I used to write these silly newspapers about what happened in my life back in the days and posted that on my blog or just printed them.

My first blog was just a local homepage that I filled with content, and the next thing I did was set up my WordPress site.

I’d do anything to get that feeling back. The feeling of that 2015 WordPress or Blogger era.

Just writing about the things that I love. Transferring my interests onto my readers for the sake of it being my favorite thing to do.

Not just creating content without a soul. I hate that.

And I would rather not become what I hate.

I’m not a marketeer, I’m a writer and a forever student of life. I hope this article is the start of what my writing revival era is.

So I want to read more. That’s something that activates creativity and your ability to create. It’s the positive kind of consumption. There are no pictures, no fast-moving frames. Just words and your imagination, which stimulates your thinking.

I’m still having an inner debate whether I like short-form or long-format more. I guess it depends on the subject.

And every so often I just want to share a quick thought or note about what I’m doing. Such as when I’m traveling and have some photos attached.

I’ll think of that.

I’m also going to be focusing on writing a lot more articles on Medium about topics that really interest me like history, geography, and politics. Not just the same old self-help articles that everyone has read by now. Only when I think it’s advice that I’d apply to myself right now.

Bottom line, I’m sharing my process of finding my passion and love for writing again with you. Some would call it “practice in public”.
