Brooke West · Brooke West Yoga Therapy

If you are free tonight, please join us at 5PST online for an hour! ⭐️ All are welcome!

My good friend and Yoga Therapist Niya Bajaj will expertly guide us through an hour of sweet prompts from memoirs of folks with neurodivergent experiences, offer us six minutes of writing or creating after each reading, then we will do a little sharing, then repeat a time or two, for one hour total.

It’s a simple process that brings calmness, clarity and connection developed by Columbia University. Won’t you join us? An hour of good company in these wild times feels good. It’s free!

Again, EVERYONE is welcome. It’s part of our Mad Yoga offerings open to all.

ZOOM Link HERE - 5pm PST/8pmEST

Niya offered a short reading and prompt on Instagram yesterday.

Then on Sunday, I will be participating in another online event called T-MAPs, which facilitated positive mental health by making a “map” of what it feels like when you are well, what it feels like when you aren’t so well, and how to take care. It’s a map meant to be shared with others, especially helpful if your mental health feels delicate right now.

It’s a free/sliding scale event, expertly guided by social worker Sascha DuBrul, co-founder of The Icarus Project. He is amazing and lovely and offers IFS counseling. He is kind of a big deal, famous for being innovative and generous in the radical mental health world. About 65 people have signed up. There will be a couple of breakout sessions during the two hours. If you know any teens struggling, this could be a great support for them and their parents, too.

Here’s more info:

Sascha Altman DuBrul

The Icarus Project was a movement, a language, and a network of people pushing the limits of the mental health system. It was a space to tell our stories, define who we are, and create something outside the pathologizing medical model. It recognized our struggles, visions, and extremes as wisdom. If you want to learn more, check out this Retrospective of the Icarus Project video.

The Icarus Project Archive is preserving the zines, writings, and history of the movement. We’re also prompting new conversations about what radical mental health means now, to learn from the past and start something new.

A little P.S. from Brooke:

We did not get the grant for Mad Yoga that we applied for. If you know of any grants that we might apply for, please let us know! Thanks again to everyone who donated to the fundraiser so Mad Yoga could be fiscally sponsored. You can make a tax deductible donation to Mad Yoga here. We would like to raise money to pay for an online platform so that the Mad Yoga teachers can share and teach yoga for neurodivergence in a co-operative model. We were hoping to raise $5,000 with this grant to pay for the software and other related expenses for one year. We are moving ahead and every penny helps!

Thank you to my private yoga therapy clients! If you would like a session, please reply to this email.

I took a part time job with the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless helping domestic violence survivors be housed for two years. I am happy to be of service to them!

I will be teaching on Tuesdays in person starting April 22 at Wood’s Apothecary in South Lake Tahoe, 6-7:30pm. You can find details on my website here.

Grad school is going great! I will be down in Santa Barbara April 8-13 for our residential. SLO folks, be in touch if you’d like a drive-by hug! I’ll have my cat with me.

We are studying Technology and Psyche in one class, and The Complex Nature of Inspiration in the other this quarter. This week are discussing madness and creativity - right up my alley!
