More publishing news to share: I’ve set a release date! Keeping true to its story, the second edition of Stars Above will be available starting May 16th. There won’t be a pre-order period, it will simply be available. There shouldn’t be a delay, but as anyone who has self-published can tell you, sometimes Amazon and other platforms can play a little hard and fast with publication dates… I’ll be sure to send out a note when it’s available, through Amazon and other booksellers, as a paperback and ebook.
I like to think of this book as a letter from my high school self. Which, since that’s when I wrote the original drafts, it kind of is. There’s a desire to be known, to make a difference, and figure out who you’re supposed to be that I’m not sure I could ever capture in quite the same way again.
If you’re looking for a short read, or a coming of age story to bridge those formative middle/high school years, I’d love to recommend Stars Above to you.
If you missed the last update, you can see the new cover and synopsis here!
The short recap is the current version of Stars Above will only be available through the beginning of May. The first edition, lovingly the first book and book cover I ever published, will no longer be available after May 5th. There will be roughly a week where you will not be able to purchase a copy before the second edition releases.
If you already have a ebook of Stars Above - please let me know! Because of my name change and other publishing world things I do not have control over (nor the time or energy to try and change), your ebook will not receive a free prompt to update to the latest version. I’m happy to provide a new edition to you, but in order to do so I need to be able to contact you. You can use the button below, or reply to the email in your inbox.
Onto the nerdy author things!
First off, if anyone out there has any tips on rereleasing second editions and how those items overlap, I would love some ideas to learn from for Imprinted’s rerelease later this year. But for Stars Above, having a gap between the first edition’s discontinuation and the second edition’s launch is the plan.
Second, for a picture into how my author brain works, here’s a short summary of what’s left for me to do between now and May 16th:
Set up ISBNs for Stars Above, paperback and ebook (not required for the ebook, but since I want to use Draft2Digital and Amazon to distribute, I have to be sure neither of them own the identification number for my ebook)
Update my copyright pages and triple check formatting (shout out to Atticus. It has made book formatting so much easier)
Set up and get test prints of my paperbacks through Amazon and D2D; fix issues… because it’s never perfect the first time for me
Set up my ebooks in both platforms
Mark Stars Above as unavailable on Amazon
Publish the new ebook and paperback!
Then, it all comes full circle again as I move on to finalizing edition 2 of Imprinted.
Self-publishing is a labor of love, where some days seem to be more productive and groundbreaking than others. But no matter how small a story reaches, I have absolute faith that the people who will be impacted by this story will find it, and I’m doing all I can to allow that to happen.
To each of you who read, share, pass on this little blog: thank you. You’re part of making that happen.
My website is currently under construction. You can still find my books, Stars Above and Imprinted under “Brooke Tiedt” on Amazon and others. With new versions to rerelease in the new year, these current book versions will be retiring. If you want an original copy, you’re welcome to grab one while you can! If you’re patiently waiting for the new copies, keep a look out for more information headed your way soon. Thank you!
