2 Week Count Down to Stars Above Edition 2!

When I first hit publish, five years ago(!) on Stars Above through KDP, I didn’t have all the things put in place to really launch it into the world. A shaky social media presence at best, no email list, and maybe not even a website. But I only had one purpose in mind: that the one person who needed to read this book would find it, and it would make a difference in their life. Of course doing real marketing not only sets up the book for success and helps that reader find it. But it’s crazy to think what the last 5 years have looked like, and to be rereleasing that story into the world again.

Edition 1 of Stars Above is officially out or print as of May 5th! Edition 2, with its new cover and never-seen-before flash fiction, will be available May 16th! Five years to the day of its original release.

They always say that you learn something about the author in their books. It’s not always easy for me to pinpoint what exactly I leave behind on the page in other works, but this is one of them that’s very clear.

I think for girls, especially those of us more introverted, loneliness seems to be a shadow that creeps up on us. Whether the story it tells us is real, or we manufacture part of its existence, it’s a quiet feeling. It doesn’t seem to have a place in conversation because that’s when its pressure is the least daunting. But it always comes whispering back, warping our worldview to get us to believe that there’s no one out there, or that the relationships we want aren’t really real, and that what we want might be unobtainable.

I also think that’s a really hard feeling to get out of a middle or high school girl. At least that’s how it was for me. And it’s also really easy to keep carrying that once you begin to believe the story loneliness tells you. What’s harder is learning how to name it for what it is, unravel what you’ve come to believe, and step into a world where being vulnerable can be scary.

But if that’s you, I want you to hear the core story within Stars Above - that no matter what questions we have that are not answered, no matter what burden you’re shouldering alone that’s not really yours to carry, and even when the world seems to fall apart around you, that is not the end. There is always hope. Your story is not done being written yet.

Stars Above is a little book, just about 100 pages in all. It’s a quick read, but an introspective one.
