Dear tea friends,
Hard to believe it’s been two months since our last newsletter and we’re in a completely different season now! As you read this, I hope you are enjoying a beautiful day, wherever and whenever you may be.
First up, a quick photo recap of some recent adventures in Taiwan and New Hampshire!
In late April, Jonathan and I took a short but wonderful 4-day trip to Taiwan during the spring tea-making season in the north. We spent most of it with our tea maker friend Mr. Fu and his friends in Pinglin and Taipei, learning about the processing of Tieguanyin (aka Iron Goddess) and Baozhong.
In short, we learned that making these teas is EXTREMELY complicated and requires an unbelievable amount of dedication, physical labor, and intuitive skill. There are numerous steps, the execution of which entirely depends on each tea maker’s judgment, experience, as well as artistic style. If you’d like to take a deep dive with us, we put together a little podcast episode — our second in as many years; it might even become a regular series at this rate…! — about our trip, where we share what we learned about making tieguanyin, as well as talk a bit about how we source and buy teas in general.
We are also debuting a few new teas from Mr. Fu and friends online and in the tea room — more on that below!
In May, we got to participate for the second time in the Northeast Coffee & Tea Festival in Concord, NH. The weather was much more cooperative than last year, and with part of it being a 22-hour outdoor market across two days, we were very grateful for that! I also got to teach not one but two different tea classes this year. Both seemed to be well-received, and I’m keeping them in mind with an eye towards expanding our classes at the tea room in the future. Speaking of which, by the way, if there are any tea topics that you, dear readers, would be interested in taking a class with us on, we’re always open to suggestions!
Without further ado, we’ve got several special events happening this month at the teahouse!
Thursday 6/11, 12-1 pm: 3-Tea Omakase
A new tea class series where we share 3 teas that we’re most excited about at the moment, in a casual and educational setting.
Wednesday 6/17: Malden Farmers Market Opening Day
Catch us there with loose leaf teas, cold brew gear, and free samples!
Thursday 6/18: Zine Club, Snacks & Tea with Cafe Soupçon
Let’s make a collaborative recipe zine led by Em of Cafe Soupçon while enjoying homemade snacks, CAKE 🍰, and tea!
Friday 6/26: Dinner, Tea & Movie Night
Join us for a Taiwanese bento box dinner from Wei To Go, followed by a cozy screening of Monster, a 2023 Japanese LGBTQ film by Hirokazu Koreeda, with all-you-can-drink tea and good company.
Our new 2026 spring harvest teas have begun to roll in! First up, two new Taiwanese oolongs from Mr. Fu and friends: 2026 Orchid Dew Baozhong and 2026 Traditional Milk Oolong. From southern China, we’ve also received the latest vintages of our classic dancong (单枞) oolongs: 2026 Hummingbird’s Dream and 2026 Honey Orchid. All of these teas will age well, but there’s something special about drinking them fresh, right after they’re made.
Give these - or any other of our fresh oolongs - a try, and use code SPRINGOOLONGS10 for 10% off, exclusively for our newsletter subscribers. Valid until 6/17/26.
All of these teas are also available on our current tea room menu, which also includes our summer cold brew specials.
Note on temperature: Our tea room is comfortably air-conditioned and stays around 69F Thursdays through Saturdays. Sundays tend to feel a few degrees warmer. Whether you’re looking for warm or cold tea this season, we’ve got you covered!
If you’re new to our newsletter or Broken Cup Teahouse in general, here’s an absolutely gorgeous photo series by syd.shoots.film of our tea room from May. Does it make anyone else think of In The Mood For Love (or just me)? 👀
As always, thanks for reading and supporting, and we hope to share some tea with you soon!
-Yin
