Because what you do at home matters just as much as what happens in the treatment room

Massage is one of those things that we often think is best left entirely to the professionals, but the best professionals tend to think otherwise.

A great massage with a pro massage therapist is like a great facial with a pro esthetician: enormously helpful…but what you do every day matters just as much. Massage and tension release, done gently and frequently at home, is kind of like a home skincare routine. And if it’s done on the neck and the jaw, it can genuinely benefit your face.

So, how do you do it?

Last week, I mentioned that I’d share some self-massage tutorials from the magical SF bodyworker, Onyia Pemberton, to help those of us who experience jaw and neck tension. (If you don’t experience it, you might be a unicorn.)

This week, I’m sharing the first one: a six-minute guide to Gua Sha, where Onyia uses this gorgeous nephrite jade tool in easy, intuitive ways that I promise you’ll find to be supremely achievable.
