In 2016 I launched a small business consultation practice designed to build up over-represented and under-served communities. The underdog is what I have been and it’s the hand I have been most encouraged to play to win. I have been hired by both nonprofit and for profit agencies for my ability to analyze trends, coach individuals and teams, build stuff that works, and save organizations from imminent collapse.
Emerging from this background I write to you today as an entrepreneur who is working to propel my way of coaching at a specific time; now. Workforces have become demoralized, the news covers anything but, and as individuals we are exhausted. Coming out of the pandemic, social justice breakthroughs, and a harrowing election cycle resulting in torment and abuse administered by people in power, it’s too much (enter sound of a whistle blowing). We’re not just tired. But over it. No more. Not one more single email. Not one more single public media image of a dictator signing a piece of paper eliminating the rights of millions of Americans.
New paths can be hard and they can be terrifying. I am stepping into the substack space as your fearful leader. I know your fear because I have fear too. I also enjoy coaching people towards their maximum place of emotional + financial well-being and to build up individuals’ inherent talent so they can live more full lives. And often, there are charts, whiteboards and stick it notes involved. As an experiential educator there will also be play. After all I am a business coach and often I will be writing on topics that begin with questions like “How often do you take your lunch breaks?” as a gauge of stress, balance, and overachieving patterns that degrade our health. My name is Bri and I only started taking my lunch breaks 2 years ago despite my lengthy career.
I have spent a critical period of my career as a peer to therapists. In a nod to past co-workers I will end with an I statement. I am scared. I am scared my skillset will go unused. I am scared the people who need my medicine won’t ever know I exist. And I’m going to build here anyway.
There needs to be outposts of health setup to help the masses in such dysfunctional times.
I have also spent a lengthy period of my career managing multi-state logistics. In a nod to my past work life I will be clear and to the point. It is my intention to write in this space on a monthly basis tackling topics related to life and work and the space that exists between both worlds (that’s you).
