Before I jump into this month’s creative community, I wanted to say happy Pride Month my friends!
Pride is a protest, and queer and trans joy is a protest. And especially in the times we are living in, it’s so important to take this time to lift up and celebrate the queer people in our communities.
As such, I am going to donate 100% of the money I make from paid subscriptions this month to Courage+, a Milwaukee-based organization that provides safe and inclusive housing, trauma-informed care catered to the LGBTQ+ community, education, and reliable data-supported thought leadership. For me, the spring slump is finally over and I’m ready to emerge into a much brighter and energized summer. I feel ready to sit by the pool and read, snack on sticky ice cream sandwiches, blow bubbles with my niece, dance in the grass, and pack a picnic to eat at the lake. So naturally, I felt inspired to lean into the playfulness of summertime with the prompts this month.
I also encourage you to think about how you can both lean into and, perhaps, reclaim the joy of playfulness in your life. How can you give yourself permission to play without limits? Where can you say “yes” to your inner child? How can you be the person you always wanted to be around when you were a kid? Play is resistance because joy is resistance.

What can our queerness teach us about creativity and writing? How can we explore our creativity through a queer lens? What can we learn from queer writers and their perspectives that will inspire our own creative practices?
This four-week workshop will explore the work and worldviews of queer creatives past and present to inspire our writing practices.
Each week, we will:
Read and discuss the writing and work of a queer writer/creative (Potential writers include Frida Kahlo, Audre Lorde, Ocean Vuong, Torrey Peters, Casey McQuiston)
Write around prompts inspired by them and their work
Share our writing with the group (optional, but encouraged!)
Be in community with other queer folks to discuss our own creative practices
