Portland Malt Shoppe

A tiny little building overlooking Lake Superior that serves ice cream and malts. My daughter worked there for a few summers. Not shown: the lines of people that snake all the way out to the street most evenings.

Frank Lloyd Wright Gas Station

A portrait of a cool gas station that is still in operation, and last time I was there, you could still go up and hang out in the little room above the office.

UMD Faculty Biennial

I m excited to be included in the Faculty Biennial show at the Tweed Museum on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The opening will be alongside Fresh Foundations a show of student work from the foundation level courses. Opens Oct 28, 2025, runs through Feb 27, 2026. Poster by Matthew Olin.

Shrooms

On June 14, there s a worldwide art hide and seek called Game of Shrooms. Artists hide mushroom-themed pieces, and give clues to where they are, and you can hunt, find and keep original art. I ll be hiding these pen and ink drawings, and probably making some others before the date these were pretty fun [ ]

Adventures in crop art

When I go to the Minnesota State Fair, every year, after seeing the crop art, I think I want to try that. That could be fun. And then July of the next year rolls around, and I haven t tried it. Every year. Except 2024. Soon after the fair in 2023, I bumped into Scott Lunt [ ]

Ordean Foundation

In 2023, the Ordean Foundation in Duluth celebrated 90 years of giving back to the community. Director Don Ness asked me to create several videos for the event, including historical interviews, project spotlights, biographies of past employees, and this fun animated story about founder Albert Ordean.
