I’ve just gotten back from another tradeshow in Washington, D.C. and if there is a God I’m hopeful to not have to do another one until next year. But because of that, I’m not feeling very creative. I have an article to write tonight for a watch publication and I’m mustering up every last ounce of brain power to not fall asleep in front of my desk. You’d be concerned surprised how often this is a losing battle of mine.

In any case, after two weekends away from work and leaving again at the end of the month to go to Oslo (more on this momentarily), I’m trying to pack a few pieces in while I can. So if you’re a PR girlie or gay (or a straight guy who I usually address as “hey man” in emails), keep reading to find what I’m working on or planning to work on for the remainder of August.

And, because I’m a greedy sonofabitch and like to imagine on some level you pity me for living in rural Pennsylvania, I’ve included a couple other things towards the bottom of the email. You can skip that if, in fact, you hate me. That makes two of us!

  • A quick turnaround on a story for Forbes on the debate about wearing shorts to work that you’ve undoubtedly seen online. Need a couple expert quotes, will probably include some short recommendations. I’ll be writing this one for probably a Friday publishing date (also wanna touch on sunehara or “leg hair assault”, a term referring to the discomfort some Japanese women feel in seeing their male colleague’s leg hair)

Sorry for sunehara-ing you :(
  • In a similar vein to the above, I’m writing a piece on getting back into office dressing after a summer of looser, more expressive clothes. Looking for guys from a range of backgrounds and workplaces to talk about how they keep some personality in what they wear without pushing too far against the dress code. Would love specific examples of what works, what doesn’t, and how they’ve found that balance. Hoping to interview a few guys by early next week.

  • Still doing the crossover of menswear and ballet piece, if there is any interesting angles, people to interview, etc. here

  • I’m doing a piece on the rise of bespoke and custom eyewear in the industry and would love to feature a couple more brands for this one — I have one brand to spotlight but love to round out these things so it’s not a single-brand feature

  • Looking at the suiting/tailoring scene in New York City and how it’s evolving for bespoke services, higher end clientele, and more elegant spaces.

There are more, I’m sure, but this is the current list that’s been rattling around in the ol’ noodle this week. Feel free to reach out if you want to contribute / be interviewed / have some info that could help. You know the drill. If you can, remember to not just reply because then it gets lost and I feel bad and you get mad and then I ignore your emails out of fear of disappointing you in the future.

  • Want to contribute to a guest post? It’ll follow a similar format to my What Caught My Eye series, but you only have to pick five things. I’ll write a little bio about you and do all the work once you submit your entry. If so, hit me up. Also good for PR girlies/gays/hey man’s out there for any founder or creative you wanna spotlight on a second-rate Substack

  • I’m going to Oslo in 2.5 weeks. What should I wear? Do you want to send me clothes? What shows should I see / what should I do? Are you going and want to meet? Let me know! Hit me up! Send meg en e-post, takk!

  • A week after is NYFW. Because of my work schedule, travel schedule, and general Life Stress™, I’ve not put much attention to planning this. Because of that, I still need to worry about:

    • Accommodations - Know a hotel who needs a charity write-off for 2026 taxes? Have a sublet for a week or two?

    • Party/Show invites - Because I have to work my normal business hours during this time, I wanna have at least some of it sorted in advance if possible

    • Ways to spend my day outside of shows, like exhibits, spa appointments, saunas — I’m a stressful li’l guy and like a little pampering now and then

    • Clothing - Half my clothing is in storage units and half of it I hate, so would be happy to wear something new (same goes for Oslo, because I’m only packing one suitcase for 2 weeks) and hope to document my outfits similar to how I did for Helsinki and London

If any of the above is of interest, hmu. I’m writing a diaristic play-by-play of my time in Oslo and New York for Forbes, so would love to work with you on this in some capacity.

Cheers, Brett
