A Mid-Week Email, Written on a Train

I’m currently somewhere between a college town and Amish country in the middle of Pennsylvania. I’m also a bit nauseous. I’m doing two things I’m not a fan of: sitting backwards on the train and having to make small talk. Nonetheless, I’ve put my headphones in (the kindest way I’ve found to tell a stranger to stop talking to me), I am working through what feels like a Sisyphean amount of unread emails, and I will be in New York by five o’clock tonight.

I’m in the City until Monday morning for a tradeshow for my full-time job. A big one, in fact, and one I’ve never been to before. So most of my hours in “the greatest city in the world” will be twisting pen caps on and off and trying to avoid getting ink stains on the white Eton shirts I packed without thinking. Risky business.

While the tradeshow will take up the majority of my time, I do have pockets of evening open and I’m staying an extra day to walk around Brooklyn on Sunday. Other than a dinner at a barbecue place for Zippo Lighters, and getting a tattoo from Girl Knew York*, I’ve only been to Brooklyn a total of four hours my entire life. If you have any recommendations, do let me know. I’ll probably ignore any museum recommendation this trip, truth be told. I can only nod my head and pretend to pay attention so much in a week.

In other news, Oslo’s fashion week is just a month away now. I’m getting very excited and have started picking out little outfits to wear. Hotel room mirrors will hate to see me coming. I really only have one pose.

Which brings me to my final little bit of news: I’m now writing for Rolling Stone and my first piece went up yesterday! You can read it here. It’s about dress shirts. This year, I’ve now written for Inside Hook, GQ, and Rolling Stone (as well as my ol’ faithfuls like Cool Material, Surface, and Forbes), and feel really fortunate to see my name on Rolling Stone’s homepage. Even more so considering my hotel mirror selfie from my weekend in Bilbao for that Guggenheim thing was used as the hero image. Well, if it ain’t broke…
