Death Valley has become increasing popular amongst nature and landscape photographers. It’s no surprise to me. Having conducted over 14 workshops within the valley, from October through mid-March, I have seen and photographed so many wonderful nature scenes, with such a variety of light.
While we can’t guarantee light or weather, winter typically offers up wonderful moments like this one at Zabriskie point. That morning, the sky lit up and bounced light everywhere! It was the perfect spot to capture all that reflected light in a 9 panel panorama.
Here are a few reasons for joining us in February 2027:
• You get two professional photographers with in-depth experience in the park. We’ll bring you to iconic locations as well as several areas that are off the well-beaten path. We know where to go, and when.
• You gain the benefit of two educators to assist you in making your best images. Jed and I have been teaching photography for many years, on every level, including how to see more deeply and express personal vision. We work hard to give you both an enriching and fun learning experience.
• You are in the company of like-minded enthusiasts who don’t mind staying out for the ‘last light’ or getting up early for the best first light. While we’ll have to eat, sometime, we’ll spend as much time as possible in the field, conditions permitting
• It will be just plain fun! We’ll share in the adventures of trekking in sand dunes, across the desert floor, climbing a few hills, celebrating whatever light we are given
• Winter Light! The angle of the sun is low in late January/early February, which not only adds a lovely warmth to the sunrise/sunset light, it also provides a bit more time in the field working in the predawn and golden hours.
Here’s a small gallery to whet your appetite. Please click to see larger and the vertical within it. You can also see more of mine along with Jed’s photographs on our Death Valley & Alabama Hills Workshop page on my website.
And finally,
• We will all get to share our photographs in a followup zoom.
We truly hope you’ll join us. Registration is presently open, and deposit information and a trip application are on the webpage.
For those that have a paid subscription to Visual Journeys, I am pleased to offer you a special discount, in a separate email announcing this workshop. Look for it in your inbox!
