And there it was, the sign

I know I just posted about too much work and not enough play, and I promised to endeavor to play more. This is just a short update to that article: Yesterday morning, before we left our camp spot, I went out to play - and found delightful salsify (goatsbeard) seed heads!

The first thing I spotted though, was a stellar jay feather, just lying on a carpet of pine needles.

I took that as a sign - the proof positive that if we allow ourselves to break from our chores, take a break from our computers, etc., and go out into nature, we’ll be rewarded.

After I made the feather image, I went in search of a ‘perfect’ salsify head, like the one in the opening image – complete, without having lost some of its seeds yet, soft and dreamy.

I made a series of images surrounding that one seed head, and then I suddenly noticed the one next to it - that had lost most of its seeds. It was just as beautiful! Imperfect, and it spoke to me.

I marveled at how it paralleled life - about the need to let go and let the winds of life take you, and yet how easy it is to hang on, unsure of where it will take us.

Given my recent article, I thought these images were so appropriate for me to discover yesterday!
