Over the years I’ve struggled with the idea that as a travel influencer it’s very easy to be used as a tool of propaganda. For us to be used to wash the stain of various societal crimes that destinations have committed.
In fact, this fear has stopped me from going on assignments to countries where I felt like I could be potentially used as a tool to promote governments that I felt were unethical. Over the years, I’ve turned down a lot of money. I’ve turned down trips to Saudi Arabia. I’ve turned down trips to Israel. I was even offered a very high paying press trip to Abkhazia - a Georgian territory currently controlled by Russia.
