A Fact of Matter, As a Matter of Fact

Plasma (a.k.a. non-atomic or subatomic matter) is the most abundant form of matter that exists—our familiar form of earthly matter is actually rare in the grand cosmic scheme of things. While known as the “fourth” state of matter, plasma is really the first and most fundamental (that is recognised scientifically) and constitutes over ninety-nine percent of matter in the known cosmos. Plasma is actually abundant throughout the so-called “vacuum” of space—between the sun and earth.1

The name plasma was coined in 1928 by American scientist Irving Langmuir (1881 - 1957), and all work since 1879 on “ionised gases” or “radiant matter” (Sir William Crookes’ term) thereafter became retrospectively known instead as plasma research.2 The sun and stars are plasma, and so is lightning and ball lightning, among other things (it is likely the giant outer planets are also plasma). Most plasma is invisible.3

There is reason to believe that plasma can, due to its self-organizing properties, be considered alive (inorganic life) in some way, and can also evolve intelligence. In space, beyond the protective sheaths of the Van Allen belts, this may happen much faster than is possible with organic life.4

Robert Temple suggests life in its basic form is “inorganic” and made out of pre-atomic matter (electrons, protons, and positively charged incomplete atoms called ions, a.k.a. plasma). Following in the same vein as author Jay Alfred, Temple suggests spiritual experiences through history were really encounters with plasma phenomena or entities.5

Plasma is known to manufacture its own “dust” and “dust molecules,” from which “charged plasma entities can emerge” through self-organisation.6 It is through this process, Temple asserts that plasma people (and other beings) imperceptible to our physical senses can exist and which may pass through our dense matter like ghosts—just as ball lightning (a plasmoid) is known to do, along with lab-created plasmoids.7 (Ball lightning’s ability to move through our dense matter is an example of quantum tunnelling in the macro world.) Ball lightning can also move against a strong wind, as if there is not wind at all.8*

(Side note: Temple also suggests that ball lightning and UFOs may represent surveillance technology being sent out from the nearby Kordylewski clouds—two huge dusty plasma clouds—sometimes referred to as “ghost moons”—orbiting earth at roughly the same distance as the moon, at the L4 and L5 Lagrangian points of the Earth–Moon system, and which are highly likely to possess intelligence and incomprehensible data storage and processing capacities, like giant digital computer brains; they may even be self-aware. To pursue these ideas in our investigation here is beyond our scope though.)

The majority of phenomena connected to ghosts, OBEs, astral planes, and even “aliens” can theoretically be accounted for through plasma physics—along with various phenomena pertaining to afterlife realms. Drawing additionally on the fields of M-theory (which subsumes the various string theories), and other relevant branches of physics and cosmology has yielded startling insights, as Jay Alfred has highlighted. In the past several decades, researchers have increasingly developed parallel scientific concepts to many esoteric concepts, including the way their conjectured “dark matter” behaves being a precise match for the matter of the observable “subtle bodies” of the esotericist/metaphysicist.

To clarify: the mainstream cosmological idea of “dark matter” as currently framed in the popular model is largely falsified, as researchers in the Electric Universe model have demonstrated, along with Dan Winter. The point here is not to endorse this idea as such but to notice the conceptual parallels with esoteric phenomena relating to discarnate consciousness and the so-called subtle bodies (which we know actually do exist).

In Temple’s view, dark matter”

is plasma in different states (gaseous, liquid, solid, etc.) that is in the “dark mode” and hence invisible to us.9

According to scientists working in the field, dark matter (read: dark plasma) can pass straight through regular matter as well as other dark matter, just like “ghosts” can pass through walls. The properties of plasma allows “ghosts” or other beings from the etheric ecological niches to change their opacity and disappear at will. Through the production of ordinary plasma, it is believed discarnate entities can also create electric winds10.

There are reasons why in the paranormal literature the idea that ghosts are drawn to and/or stimulated by electricity shows up repeatedly. As Jay Alfred’s thesis suggests, in an environment featuring electrical equipment or power lines—being already slightly ionised—it is likely easier for such beings to then generate visible regular plasma through the process of “dark ionisation.”

Increasing the density of the etheric or astral body would hypothetically increase the rate of collisions between ordinary ionised particles nearby and the dark matter particles of the relevant plane/dimension11, producing more visible effects in our frequency spectrum. When “dark plasma” particles are present in high density there are more collisions with ordinary matter particles, thus displacing electrons and ionising the regular matter particles, thereby generating ordinary plasma, light, heat, and electricity.12

This potentially explains a lot of so-called “paranormal” phenomena, including sudden flashes of light or blasts of sound from out of “nowhere,” and even various religious apparitions, orbs, and “ghost” sightings.

We have already seen plenty of evidence that non-physical beings can manipulate electronics. Alfred accounts for phenomena like EVP and other “anomalous” electronic events partly through the ability of plasma (specifically our dark plasma bodies) to generate what he dubs “dark” radio waves which can be converted to ordinary measurable radio waves. Likewise, regular photons could be generated by the regular measurable plasma generated by ghosts during the aforementioned dark ionisation process.13 If the conversion of “dark” radio waves or dark photons into their measurable ordinary counterparts sounds speculative, keep in mind that in Book 1 we saw experimental proof that the mind—which I argued manifests as the subtle/dark plasma bodies—can indeed generate measurable light.

In line with Alfred’s work, veteran paranormal researcher and ghost hunter Joshua P. Warren writes that multiple “ghostly” phenomena can be duplicated through plasmas and ions, including, “hair standing on end, cold chills, three-dimensional light forms, objects moving.” The sudden cooling of air in the presence of a ghost is a popular trope in film and TV, but one based on people’s genuine experiences throughout history. Accordingly, there is a science to it. Warren clarifies the role of ions, explaining an ion wind feels like a physical touch, having a tactile quality, as well as being related to the felt sense of coldness:

Electrical charges rushing across the skin also create an ion wind. This produces a cool or cold sensation on the flesh…This could certainly account for cold chills when a ghost is encountered14.

Additional facts from Warren’s research connecting plasma with spirit manifestations include the following:

  • Electrostatic energy can move/manipulate objects. Therefore a “ghost” with a strong enough presence could create force, pressure, and potentially assault someone (this is rare), or create various diverse physical phenomena such as documented in seances (raps, table tipping), hauntings, poltergeist cases, etc.,

  • There are more ghost-related events in drier months when electrical charges are less easily lost to the water in the air,

  • Strong ion concentrations bring with them certain aromas, and static electricity also creates ozone (which has an aroma described variously as metallic, clean, chlorine-like, like an electrical spark or burning wire, and slightly sweet),

  • An estimated 60 to 70% of ghostly activity is by deceased humans or animals,

  • “Imprints” or “place memory hauntings” (a.k.a. residual energy haunting associated with a particular location or building) may account for a further 20 to 30% of hauntings,

  • The region of earth’s magnetosphere facing the sun (day time) is compressed and highly agitated, while the uncompressed side (night time) is calmer. At night when the field expands it lifts the ionosphere, which reflects EM waves. With the calmer nighttime EM conditions, it is easier for ghost hunters like Warren to find and follow spectral manifestations; discarnate materialisations should be easier too, in theory,

  • Camera shutter speeds faster than the human brain’s “shutter speed” (of about thirty frames/second) allow cameras to see higher-frequency manifestations of “ghosts” than human eyes can see. Strobe lights—the faster the better—may also help us see “ghosts” more easily.15

The book of Job from the Ketuvim, the third division of the Hebrew Bible (the basis of the Old Testament), features an outstanding example of what could be interpreted as an encounter with a discarnate entity and the ion wind it generated:

“Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.” —Job 4:15

In A New Science of Heaven, Temple gives a fascinating overview of the thinkers and schools of thought—from Aristotle to Taoists—whose ideas and perceptions anticipated today’s plasma physics, and the interested reader should check it out.
