Bree Groff · What Work Should Be

Gratitude lag: the day we decide to get rid of this unused window cat bed is the day she can’t get enough.

Hi! My name is Bree, and I write about how to have better days at work and in life. Subscribe for posts on everything from 20 short rules for better days at work to Grandpa Mornings. And order my new book, Today Was Fun: A Book About Work (Seriously)!

There’s nothing my overachieving Millennial soul likes better than the idea of being in the “advanced class.” So when I started thinking about gratitude this week, I decided to go hard:

What would Advanced Placement Gratitude look like?

We teach kids the basics. Across the US you can see 5 year olds making Thanksgiving turkey handprints with things they’re grateful for like family, friends, food, fun.

Solid, but also, so Gratitude 101.

AP Gratitude would be non-obvious. Much more interesting. I’d have to work for it. So what sort of things are hard to be grateful for? I’ll tell you what: Terrible things. Today I give you five terrible things that I’m in some weird way grateful for. And I invite you to share your own!
