I waited in line to try the new canyon coffee in prospect heights, cause the line wasn’t that long I swear…
I looked down and saw a parade of Salomon’s, and I was not the exception. I kind of laughed then stopped laughing because they really are so comfortable.
There have been moments over the years when I finally feel like a real New Yorker. I have my spots, I see the same people on my commutes, I talk about train lines like they’re family members, and it all feels like home.
I’ve been into TikTok lately…mostly videos of bento boxes, girls with aesthetics that soothe my brain, and funny videos that make me l a u g h.
I’m experiencing a period where I’d like to rearrange how I spend my time. I’m curious what things I haven’t tried yet that I might love doing. I’ve also been thinking about a gene test that can tell you every book, movie, and show that you’d like based on your genetics™️™️™️—science for good. I’m back on Buddhism classes (back like I forgot something), and packets of oatmeal. My work spans yoga and regenerative farming right now.
everyone loveeees when I write about dating, and I do too, cause we literally love gossip hour. I dated someone who wanted to make a reality show about yoga teachers, after learning what we’re really like. This specific comment was made one night in the summer, when post-class we went to a bodega and I got a Coke and these neon blue octopus gummies.
I used to think yoga teachers were perfect, too.
the reality is—we laugh at the tragedy that is each other’s lives, then we turn it on. guiding, sequencing, instructing to the beat, and blending anatomy with felt sense + joy. pretty sick. yoga gives me the opportunity to use technique that’s not mine to get out of my own way. and, I can offer my technique to those who feel like they get something from it. it’s super beautiful.
I took my friend Tiv’s meditation class a few weeks ago, and they said to treat everybody like it’s their birthday. kids screaming? it’s their birthday. friend’s friend annoying you at the bar? well, it’s their birthday. fight with your girlfriend? it’s her birthday.
it’s funny to consider myself a teacher, and when I’m home or am in my own shit, it’s hard to imagine what I teach helps people get by and even get better. I think of all of my teachers, how superhuman they seemed to me, until the veil was lifted and I was the one commanding a room, and sending a ‘wyd’ text to my crush. it’s a both, and. our lives are the perfect curriculum.
I stopped looking up when I ask for help. Now, I look around me and ask—cause the curriculum is right in front of me, and love is all around me.
