“People like horrible characters,” Brittain tells me.

Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale is a difficult film to watch. Why would you want to put it on stage?

“It’s about real people,” Geoff Brittain tells me. He and I are lunching at L’Incontro in the Adelaide Arcade and talking about the production of The Whale he’s directing for the University of Adelaide Theatre Guild. The play starts in November.
