Dear Beloved Offspring:

It’s been a while since I last wrote, but you’ll be happy to know I’ve been busy: traveling, writing, and writing letters.

I recognize that it’s terribly old-fashioned (and probably ineffective) to write letters as a way of fomenting the change I want to see in the world. I’m certain it’s more effective, and certainly more fashionable, to throw a brick through a store window, or kick a police officer’s vehicle, or glue myself to a museum floor while I toss tomato soup on a Van Gogh painting. Nowadays, if you post a video of the whole charade on social media, you can become a superstar!

Plenty of people protest that way.

But that’s not my style. I’m a writer, so I write letters.
