Dear Cherished Reader:
I’m trying out a new style of writing.
It’s popular on Substack.
No paragraphs. Short, punchy sentences.
Often incomplete.
Good for people with limited attention spans.
Like fruit flies.
Or the Twitter-brained.
But you, my friend, are not one of those, so I will offer you something longer, meatier.
It’s an essay I wrote over a year ago, in the old style, on a rainy day in Vietnam when I was feeling poorly.
Ignore the headline. Read it to the end. Think about it.
And if you dare, respond to my challenge.
So here’s the essay.
Read on.
That’s a Wrap!
I kind of like this new style.
It’s easy to write.
Easy to read.
It’s to writing what a Twinkie is to good pastry.
It’s Twinkie style!
How do you like it? Let me know in the comments.
Oh, and by the way… Happy 250th birthday to the good ole USA. It was a nice, long experiment.
Get ready for some big changes. Global ones. Mind-blowing ones.
Shit happens.
I’m looking forward to coming “home” the first two weeks of September. I’ll be in Richmond, Virginia, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Let me know if you’d like to catch up for a sasparilla.
I’d love to see you… on the road.
