For the last several days we have been talking about the book, Atomic Habits. Author James Clear says there are 4 steps to building a new habit:

  1. Make it Obvious

  2. Make it Attractive

  3. Make it Easy

  4. Make is Satisfying

So when it comes to our food choices, how can we make them more attractive?

Here is a photo of my own Spinach Soup recipe right off of my blog.

Would you eat this? I did - once - when I posted the recipe back in 2020. And honestly? I’ve never made it again.

Because to me - it just doesn’t LOOK that good! I mean I hate making fun of my own recipes - but hey…. it kind of looks like…

Well never mind…. let’s just say it’s NOT one of my best photos (or recipes),

Now THIS catches my eye. Lots of color with the tomatoes, cilantro, green & red chiles. It looks super tasty and something I would WANT to eat.

And it sets up my next point, which is

I look at this picture and I think, “Yum! Tacoss! My favorite! I recognize them immediately.

How many times have you sat down to something unfamiliar and think, “what in the heck is THIS?”

Why do you think I started off remaking all of my own comfort foods? Because THEY were my favorite foods! (I just had to figure out how to make them healthier).

Building on the “keep it familiar” theme, one of the first recipes I wanted to make vegan was GRAVY. Who doesn’t love gravy? It’s familiar and comforting to me, and you can pour it on practically anything.

Same with my cheese sauce - and it’s completely guilt-free because I make it out of potatoes.

Another thing I do to make my food more attractive is to spice it up.

Now I realize most of you do not have the crazy spice tolerance I do, but I’m not just talking about hot sauce. Don’t be afraid to add some spice to your food!

Fresh herbs for example can add some spice to an otherwise boring plate. Freshly chopped parsley, cilantro, sage, rosemary.

And of course fresh chiles…. which I use as both a spice and a sauce

Find YOUR foods. Foods you already love. And figure out how to make THEM plant-based. I have lots of experience with this so if you need help - shoot me an email or message me.

Find ways to make your new diet ATTRACTIVE….. and before you know it YOU can tell people you’ve been eating this way for 18 years.

It worked for me.
