One thing about me: the 7th day of August rolls around and I’m like, “That’s a wrap on summer, everyone. Pack it up!” It’s a bizarre manifestation of my anxious avoidance. If I prematurely summon what I’m desperate to avoid, maybe it will hurt less when it inevitably arrives.
I need those precious four weeks to mentally prepare for the cruel reality of fall which, for this cup half empty native Southern Californian who is addicted to dirt bag shorts and flip flops, is basically winter.
In moments like these, when my seasonal depression is but a mere twinkle in autumn’s eye, I turn to the one self-soothing practice that has never once let me down: shopping.
Shoes are basically the only area in which I don’t search for the steal because shoes, to me, are the anchor of an outfit. It’s often where I start, and it’s because they’re the truest indication of taste.
Fortunately, fall fashion is maybe the ONE thing the season has over summer so I’ve narrowed down a list of my favorite new-ish shoe brands that can carry the looks from hot pants to corduroys.
In my rather humble opinion, these are the indie darlings making the most interesting staple shoes in fashion– all charm and character and versatility– for those of us growing a bit tired of the big houses.
