Yesterday, on my lunch walk, Philip Bailey came up on one of my Apple Music playlists. Had me smiling the rest of the day.

A little bit ago, I got a heads-up about L.A. Material, LA’s newest local publication, and signed up for their newsletter. They’re now in operation. So far, I like what I see. I like it because most of these stories would make no sense to someone unfamiliar with Los Angeles County. I especially liked the breakdown of the local inspirations behind LA’s new Olympics 2028 design. It’s also funny that I’m not the only one who has clocked the Olvera St. Chevron gas station. That’s how a local outlet should feel.
They need to add a search bar.
Before I went for a run: “I feel like crap.”
After I went for a run: “I feel amazing.”
Project Hail Mary was great. I like it more and more when I think of its highest moments and how they made me feel. It helps, too, that Rocky the alien is an actual puppet. (Those thumbs!) The one big mark against the movie is that it’s way too long. The condensed version of this movie in my head is just as good as E.T. I want to see more movies like it. See it in IMAX if you can.
My YouTube algorithm is now recommending “Full Ride POV” videos, a YouTube genre I was unfamiliar with. It seems like because I watched one (excellent) video about Disney’s scariest ride, it recommended this video on California Adventure’s Incredicoaster. The recommendations keep coming. Now I know what all those people holding cameras on these rides were doing.
A variation of this kind of POV video is nighttime city drives. This feels like the logical evolution of “lofi hip hop radio beats to relax/study to.” This video of a nighttime Tokyo drive from Roppongi to Toyosu was the one that hooked me. I started putting it on the background while I work, and it’s been so lovely. I know Americans traveling to Japan in the past few years has become a joke, but I would love more of these videos showing different routes around the world.
